Be Zealous

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.(Revelation 3:19)
This was God's message to the church at Laodicea. A few verses prior  they were told to be on fire for the Lord! How is our service to God? Most of those that consider themselves to be a Christian wouldn't be cold, completely turning away from anything concerning God. But we have to be careful not to become lukewarm, to not just go through the motions without thought. It is so easy for us to do that! To just sing a song without giving thought to the words; to leave worship without even knowing what was taught or prayed for because we were listening but not hearing. God doesn't want us to be like this! He would rather us not follow him at all that to give less that our best when serving/worshiping him! We must be zealous so that we don't become lukewarm!

To keep from becoming lukewarm we must:
  • Be zealous in our bible studies! We could study our entire lifetime and still not learn all there is to know about God's word! We must immerse ourselves daily in his word. And we can't just read it either. We must dig into those verses and truly study them!
  • Be zealous in applying God's word to our lives! Studying alone isn't enough. We must apply what we've learned to our lives! Paul tells us that we must do the things we've learned.
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.(Philipians 4:9)
  • Be zealous in teaching others! We must share the things we've learned with others.
And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.(2 Timothy 2:2)
We must do all of these things to keep from becoming lukewarm. We can only apply and teach what we know; we can only know what we study.

  1. Oh, I really loved the last line "we can only know what we study". I'm in a Tuesday morning women's Bible study...and a friend of mine and I were having a talk about this very subject today...It's like if you want to get to know God better, you must spend consistent and daily time in His Word...and I was noticing that some of the ladies are not doing that and it shows. Now I'm praying about how I can encourage them to do more :) Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather ;)
