I Know It's Wrong But...

Via
As Christians, we all the the story of Adam & Eve's sin. God said don't eat of the tree. Eve did and gave some to Adam too. They're banished from the garden. But I think we leave out a part that we could learn a lot from.
(Gen 3:6) And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat
Notice what Eve did here? She knew that she wan't supposed to eat from the tree. She told the serpent! But when the serpent told her that she wouldn't die from eating the fruit. She reasoned in her heart. "I know God said not to but...The tree has so much fruit! And it sure looks good! And if I eat it I would gain knowledge!"

How many time do we do this? "I know I shouldn't ______________ but just this once won't hurt." And often times it's not just one time. After that we think "It didn't hurt anyone last time. I'll do it but just once more." But it does hurt! Sin separates us from God!

Eve's sin didn't begin when she took the bite of the fruit. She started it when she reasoned. She wanted to eat the fruit and was trying to justify doing so! Once we start on that path it's hard to turn back. Sin starts in the heart and that's where we must stop it!

We must guard our hearts! How can we do this?

(Pro 4:20-23) My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life

We must know God's word and be in it daily!

  1. Ashlyn, I'm sure I'm guilty of this, reasoning and rationalizing as I go through life. Thank you for making it obvious! And thank you for linking up with Make Life Meaningful Monday! I hope to read more from you in the future!

  2. "But it does hurt! Sin separates us from God!" Amen Sister! This is such a wonderful truth, and so simple. We should be nipping sin in the butt not because of consequences to us that we can "see" but the consequence that it hurts God, He doesn't want us to do it! I'm going to feature your post this week (for Workin' It Mondays) Ashlyn, that way some more may see it too! Be blessed friend.
